Tesla has made its six-seat Model Y L quicker in India, cutting a claimed 0-100 km/h time from 5.0 to 4.5 seconds. The confirmed change so far applies to India. For U.S. drivers, Tesla lists a 4.4-second 0-60 mph time for the Model Y L Premium.
Key Highlights
- Tesla’s “Acceleration Boost” cuts the Model Y L’s claimed 0-100 km/h time by half a second in India, according to Autocar India.
- It applies to vehicles purchased on or after October 1, 2026, with no announced price change.
- Claimed range is unchanged at 681 km (WLTP).
- Tesla has not published revised power figures.
What Changed
V3Cars reported that the boost is complimentary. DriveSpark said there are no reported changes to styling, cabin or equipment. Team-BHP noted there is no confirmation that older cars will get an over-the-air update to match.
Tesla has not said how it achieved the gain. Top Gear Philippines suggested a software calibration, and noted that some international sources point to a new front motor in China-market cars, rated at 176 kW versus 132 kW before. That is unconfirmed, and it is not clear it applies to the India-spec car.
Range and Charging
Tesla’s claimed range stays at 681 km on the WLTP test cycle. Real-world range varies with speed, weather and driving conditions, Autocar India noted. Tesla says the Model Y L can add up to 288 km in 15 minutes at a Supercharger, and it supports DC charging up to 250 kW.
Autocar India estimated combined output at about 514 hp and 590 Nm. Those are the outlet’s estimates, not figures confirmed by Tesla.
What It Means for U.S. Drivers
Electrek reported that Tesla launched the Model Y L in the U.S. on July 2 as a $61,990 Launch Series, with a claimed 0-60 mph time of 4.4 seconds and an EPA-estimated range of 325 miles. Tesla’s own Model Y page lists 4.4 seconds for the Model Y L Premium.
The reporting reviewed does not say that U.S. cars are getting the India boost. One reviewer’s social media post in July said a U.S. test car displayed an acceleration boost at 4.2 seconds, but that is a single unverified post.
Separately, Tesla has sold a paid $2,000 Acceleration Boost for the standard Model Y Long Range AWD, cutting 0-60 mph from 4.6 to 4.2 seconds, according to Not a Tesla App. That upgrade is for a different car, and it is not confirmed for the Model Y L.
What Remains Uncertain
All the performance figures are Tesla’s own claims, not independent tests. It is unclear whether the boost will reach other markets, how Tesla delivers it, and what it would cost outside India. For another look at what drivers are paying, see our report on U.S. inflation and the cost of living.
What to Watch Next
- Whether Tesla confirms the boost for U.S. or European Model Y L buyers.
- Official power and torque figures.
- Independent acceleration tests.
